Totem-pole Bridgeless PFC Designs Simplified by New Digital Control and Drive Silicon

The market demand for 80-Plus Titanium leads to efficiency levels challenging boundaries of conventional power factor correction (PFC) technologies. This prompts power engineers to explore the totem-pole bridgeless PFC topology as an obvious candidate.

ICERGi has taken the totem-pole PFC design one stage further through its new digital control and drive silicon IC70-001 and IC70-021. These offer a simplified high-side drive arrangement enabling the use of MOSFET switches instead of wide bandgap devices. This results in a 4 times inductor size improvement at a lower BOM cost than current GaN/SiC based designs.
