Dear Friends,

I can imagine there are some very specific requirements for MOSFETs in airbag applications. These devices must work reliable even after years of “sleep mode”.

Find all my magazines from 2006 on in our free archive on bodospower.com. There is no better way to communicate. We all share one world. As a publisher I serve the world: one magazine, on time, every time.

Combining proven MOSFET expertise with a broad understanding of application needs

There is no one size fits all for MOSFETs. As applications begin to get more complex, so must the products inside them, thereby making the design engineers job that much harder. There are 100+ parameters on a regular MOSFET datasheet but usually only a few are critical for each application.

By tailoring the physical and electrical characteristics to meet the requirements of a unique application, Nexperia can achieve significant performance improvements. Keeping the application requirements at the forefront of design it allows Nexperia to deliver optimized performance by tailoring parameters that matter most in the particular use-case, often at the expense of others of less relevance.

Watch: An introduction to Nexperia’s Application Specific MOSFETs (ASFETs)

The latest addition to Nexperia’s range of ASFETs being Automotive ASFETs for airbag applications. The new airbag family uses Nexperia’s new enhanced safe operating area (SOA) technology, which has been tailored to provide exceptional transient linear mode performance, a key metric in airbag applications. The choice of MOSFET in airbag applications has traditionally been limited to older generations of silicon technology, such as wire-bonded DPAK packages, ASFETs for airbag are designed in the space-saving LFPAK33 (84% less board space) and LFPAK56 (53% less board space) packages.
