Dear Friends,

Isolation in high-power systems tends to attract very little attention right up until switching speeds, voltage levels, and long-term reliability expectations all begin increasing at the same time. Anyone visiting PCIM Europe this year and working on SiC power conversion, energy infrastructure, or transportation systems may find a closer look at these approaches well worthwhile.

Find all my magazines from 2006 on in our free archive on bodospower.com. There is no better way to communicate. We all share one world. As a publisher I serve the world: one magazine, on time, every time.

Kind regards,

Driving Innovation for More Energy-Efficient Solutions

Designing power electronics for industrial, energy infrastructure and transportation systems means dealing with high voltages, fast switching and long-term reliability under real operating stress. In this context, isolation is not a detail – it is a key enabler of stable system performance.

Broadcom solutions available via EBV support these requirements across different applications.

In SiC-based power conversion and energy storage, isolation components must handle high dv/dt and continuous cycling without degradation. The presented solutions are designed to improve switching performance while maintaining robustness in demanding environments.

For applications where electrical isolation boundaries are critical, power over fiber offers a practical approach. It enables transmission of power and data via optical links, reducing coupling effects and increasing system tolerance. Devices such as AFBR-POC206L and AFBR-POC406L are supported by application material that helps accelerate design-in.

In addition, automotive-qualified optocouplers address safety and certification requirements in high-voltage systems, particularly in eMobility and transportation.

These technologies can be evaluated in more detail on the solution page or discussed directly at PCIM Europe 2026 in Nuremberg (June 9–11) at the EBV and Broadcom booths.

Explore the solutions and discuss your design challenges with our engineers.
