Wide Band Gap
GaN Integrated Power Stage – Redefining Power Conversion

Beyond just performance and cost improvement, the most significant opportunity for GaN technology to impact the power conversion market comes from its intrinsic ability to integrate multiple devices on the same substrate. GaN technology, as opposed to standard silicon IC technology, allows designers to implement monolithic power systems on a single chip in a more straightforward and cost-effective way.

Power Supply
Development of an Efficient Power Supply for an Extremely Wide Input Voltage Range

Imagine the possibilities if you could design a power supply that meets the input and output requirements of all applications. But designers must optimize a power supply for a specific operating range for several reasons, one being that controllers have internal limits. Techniques such as zero voltage switching, variable switching frequency or synchronous rectification reduce the power loss of the parts of the power stage, but these techniques reduce the achievable input and output voltage ranges.

New flow S3 Mid-Power Package – the Smarter Way

The new baseplate-less flow S3 package extends the power range of Vincotech's well established flow housing family. The housing is tailored for applications demanding more power in small footprint for example solar inverters or motor drives.

Diodes and Rectifiers
Second Sourcing Rectifiers

Billions of rectifiers are produced every year. Because there are not that many technological advances, designers are quite happy to continue using old designs. Supply chain problems or cost savings drive the need for change. This starts with a datasheet comparison. This article will focus on some of the issues designers face when comparing datasheets and what critical information is missing in a datasheet.

A 3-Phase 1200V/450A SiC MOSFET Intelligent Power Module for E-mobility

An increasing number of leading electrical car manufacturers are moving to Silicon Carbide (SiC) Power Transistors for traction inverters, with some relying on unconventional discrete packaging. However, very few SiC-based power modules optimized for electrical motor drive are today available. Moreover, integrating a fast switching SiC power module into an optimized inverter including gate drivers, decoupling and water cooling requires going through some learning challenges. Alternatively, fully optimized and highly integrated Intelligent Power Module solutions can save significant development time and engineering resources.

Technology
65 Years of HVDC

Demand for reliable power continues to rise and so does the quest to integrate clean renewable energies. These trends are encouraging countries to install cross-border power links to improve power security and balance demand and supply. By enabling grid interconnections and facilitating the transmission of electricity beyond borders, with minimal environmental impact, HVDC is shaping a stronger, smarter and greener grid and boosting the transition towards renewables.

EMC
How Does EMC Become a Success Factor for Your Next Design Project?

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) can prove difficult for developers and project managers. In-house testing results are rarely as good as expected, and additional obstacles may arise during development. These unexpected changes can result in shifted schedules, increased development costs, and external post-testing costs.

Negative Linear Regulator Features 0.8 µV RMS Noise and 74 dB Power Supply Rejection Ratio at 1 MHz

Low dropout (LDO) linear regulators have been widely used in noise-sensitive applications for decades. Nevertheless, noise requirements have become tougher to meet as the latest precision sensors, high speed and high resolution data converters (ADCs and DACs), and frequency synthesizers (PLLs/VCOs) challenge conventional LDO regulators to produce ultralow output noise and ultrahigh power supply ripple rejection (PSRR).
