Dear Friends,
It's not that I don't like all my magazine issues equally, but the upcoming issue for PCIM Europe is special for me. It's similar in size to the pre-pandemic trade show issues, right now I'm expecting close to 100 pages. It is a good sign that engineers are still very interested in seeing their content in my magazine and are willing to write articles. A well-written article is of incredible value to both parties, the reader and the company behind the writer. Companies can't appreciate enough how much effort their employees put into this work, sometimes even in their spare time!
Find all magazines from 2006 on in the free archive on my website. Do not miss our Chinese version bodospowerchina.com. There is no better way to communicate. We all share one world. As a publisher I serve the world: one magazine, on time, every time.
Best Regards,
Bodo Arlt editor@bodospower.com

Cover Story
Partnering for the Safe Supply of Industrial Power Modules
Power semiconductor users are painfully aware of the challenges faced in recent years due to an uncertain supply chain. Therefore, "multiple sourcing" has always been a desire when designing a power converter. Semikron Danfoss, as the largest chip-independent power module manufacturer, is in a unique position to address this. Together with our long-time partner ROHM Semiconductor, we add a fully compatible new source of 1200V IGBT to our low power module offering. This will further help to mitigate power module delivery shortages and secure the supply chain.

Test-to-Fail Methodology for Accurate Reliability and Lifetime Evaluation of eGaN Devices in Solar Applications
Modern solar panels are demanding increasingly higher power density and longer operating lifetimes. Solar applications including power optimizers and panels with built-in microinverter are becoming the prevailing trend for an increasing number of solar customers, where low voltage GaN power devices (VDS < 200 V) are extensively used.

Package for the Highest Voltage Classes Si IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs
HV LinPak is a new package that adds to several options that converter designers have for using Si IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs with nominal blocking voltages above 3.3kV. It brings to the high voltage range the advantages demonstrated by its LV variant, such as low stray inductance, very good paralleling performance, high power density and the ideal distribution of power and auxiliary terminals.

Contribution to the Turn-On Losses Won of a 600V MOSFET Caused by the FWD´s Storage Charge Qrr
By theory, turn-on and -off losses Won and Woff of MOSFETs can become calculated from the data for trise and tfall given in the datasheets. In fact there is a freewheeling diode FWD which has a turn-off behaviour that determines the turn-on losses of the MOSFET due to its storage charge Qrr. In this article a brief description why there is an impact of the diode turn-off to the MOSFET turn-on is given, also measurement results of a double-pulse test stand are shown. Finally, a formula for a first estimation of the MOSFET turn-on losses from diodes Qrr and the operating conditions is given.

How to Design an Intelligent Battery Junction Box for Advanced EV Battery Management Systems
As electric vehicles (EVs) become more popular, the challenge for automakers is to reflect true range while making the vehicle more affordable. This translates into making the battery packs lower cost with higher energy densities. Every single watt-hour stored and retrieved from the cells is critical to extend the driving range.
